Eco themes for Bushland Chapel play

Helensburgh Uniting Church’s Return of the Little Prince will premiere in The Bushland Chapel on March 5.

The sequel to Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s classic book The Little Prince (the story of an innocent boy visiting a crashed pilot in the Sahara) contains original songs and scripts directed by congregation member and playwright Geoffrey Sykes.

‘‘It’s about the prince who comes back to the Illawarra and talks to people about the importance of caring for the earth — so it has an environmental message as well,’’ he told the Illawarra Mercury.

‘‘I liked the basic story but I wanted to revisit it with a version that had rhyme and verse.”

The result is a funky, action packed feast of 13 original songs, a satiric social message and strong spiritual undertones.

Return of the Little Prince will enjoy a season of performances on Friday and Saturday nights throughout March.
